A Universe of Ideas for Classrooms

The Stuff of StarsI’m grateful for the coverage from industry journals that my new picture book The Stuff of Stars has been receiving. But I also value the postings on educator blogs; teachers often share specifics about how books can be put to good use in actual classrooms, and their ideas often extend my own thinking around my titles. For example, here’s an excerpt from feedback about The Stuff of Stars offered by Katie, who currently teaches 5th grade, posted on her blog called The Logonauts:“Marion Dane Bauer has created a sparse and lyrical text that weaves the entire story of the universe, from the Big Bang right up to today into a poem. This is a book I could see being used everywhere from science classrooms to a mentor text in language arts to a must-have gift for baby showers. You will want to see this one for yourself.”You might want to pair her suggestions with materials found on sites such as this page from NASA Space Place called “What’s This Big Bang All About?” or the one labeled “Universe Facts” from National Geographic Kids. And if you are an educator and have thoughts about using The Stuff of Stars—or any of my titles—in your classroom, I welcome your ideas in the comments section for this blog or via my website contact page!
