I’m proud that even after more than twenty years, readers are still responding positively to my title Am I Blue? Coming Out from the Silence. Publishers Weekly identified it as “the first-ever anthology of YA fiction devoted to lesbian and gay themes,” and in my work as its editor I assembled stories by children’s/YA book luminaries ranging from Jacqueline Woodson to Lesléa Newman to Bruce Coville. My hope is that all young adult readers will find at least one voice in its pages that speaks directly to them.
