The Importance of Summer Reading
Over the years I’ve been pleased to find my novel On My Honor on the summer reading lists for many different schools. Encouraging students to read over the summer months is critical; children who don’t read during the summer can lose a great deal of their reading progress and that loss has a long-term effect. This New Jersey Family article quotes educational expert Julie M. Wood as saying, “Encouraging your child to continue flexing his or her reading muscles over summer vacation is the single most important thing you can do to help develop literacy learning.”
If you’re devising your own summer reading list for students who enjoy middle grade novels, you can find a discussion guide for On My Honor on my website.
