Today is the birthday of my newest book, We, the Curious Ones, a picture book with Candlewick Press. 

We are by all odds the most persistently and obsessively social of all species, more dependent on each other than the famous social insects, and really, when you look at us, infinitely more imaginative and deft at social living.

All of humanity is searching for truth, justice, and beauty

I am here to weave my unique strand

Every day, I see or hear something

that more or less kills me with delight

We do not become enlightened by imagining figures of light

I have been asked many times over the years what made me a writer, and my answer has always been the same: “I seem to have been born with my head full of stories.”

But all the fighting in the world will not help us if we do not also hope.

Have patience with everything unresolved in your heart

A person who is lucidly aware of the miracles that surround him,

The time will come, when with elation, you will greet yourself arriving at your own door,

Genius is nothing more nor less

Character—the willingness to accept responsibility for one’s own life

I’m finishing work on a new picture book manuscript.  The title, Our Life-Giving Earth.  The topic, climate change.

I am life that wills to live

I want to see young people in America feel the spirit of the 1960s
